Who is Andrew Ridgeley?
Andrew Ridgeley is a retired English singer, songwriter, and record producer. He was a member of the pop duo Wham! from 1982 to 1986.
Ridgeley met George Michael while the two were students at Bushey Meads School in Hertfordshire. The pair quickly became friends and began writing songs together. When they were 19, they formed Wham! and signed with Innervision Records. The duo achieved massive success with their debut album Fantastic, which included the singles “Wham Rap!” and “Young Guns (Go for It!).”
Wham!’s follow-up album, Make It Big, was an even bigger success, yielding the Number One singles “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” and “Careless Whisper.” After releasing two more albums, Music from the Edge of Heaven and The Final, Wham! disbanded in 1986.
Ridgeley largely retired from the music industry after Wham!’s dissolution but has occasionally resurfaced for various charity events over the years. In 2016, he made headlines when it was revealed that he had turned down an offer to reunite with Michael for a one-off performance at the London Stadium.
As of 2021, Andrew Ridgeley’s net worth is estimated to be $25 million dollars.
Why is Andrew Ridgeley writing a book?
I suppose the simple answer is that he wants to share his story with the world. But there’s more to it than that. I think Andrew Ridgeley feels like he has something to prove.
You see, for many people, Andrew Ridgeley will always be known as “the other guy in Wham!” ufffd the 1980s pop group fronted by his friend and musical partner, George Michael. And while there’s no denying that Wham! were hugely successful (they sold more than 25 million records worldwide), they were always very much George’s band.
So, in a way, writing a book is Andrew’s chance to step out of George’s shadow and show the world that he’s more than just a one-hit wonder. It’ll also be interesting to see what he has to say about his time in Wham! and his friendship with George Michael ufffd I’m sure there are some stories he’s never told before.
Whatever the reason for writing it, I’m sure Andrew Ridgeley’s book will be an interesting read.
