Anne Cleeland Interview

Q: What inspired you to become a writer?

A: It was something I’ve always been interested in, even from a young age. I used to write little stories and poems for my friends, and I always loved reading. So when I had the opportunity to pursue it as a career, I jumped at the chance.

Q: What’s your favourite book?

A: Oh, that’s such a difficult question! I have so many favourites for different reasons. If I had to choose just one, it would probably be Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. It’s such a classic story of love and misunderstanding, and it’s so beautifully written. Plus, who doesn’t love Mr Darcy?!

Q: Where do you get your ideas from?

A: Ideas can come from anywhere ufffd TV shows, newspaper articles, conversations with friendsufffd anything really. For my latest series, the idea came from a documentary about witchcraft trials in Scotland in the 1600s. I thought it would be interesting to explore what might have happened if one of those accused witches had actually been able to use magic. And that’s how the series was born!

Q: Do you have any advice for aspiring writers out there?

A: My best advice would be to just keep writing. Write every day if you can, even if it’s just for half an hour. The more you write, the better you’ll get at it. And don’t be afraid to show your work to other people ufffd getting feedback is essential (even if it isn’t always positive!).
