The Purpose of the United Methodist Women
The United Methodist Women is an organization within the United Methodist Church that is geared towards women of all ages. The organization has a three-fold purpose:
1) To know God through study, prayer, and action
2) To develop a creative, supportive fellowship
3) And to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
In order to achieve these purposes, the United Methodist Women offer many resources on their website, including a resource catalog and reading program. They also sponsor an annual event called Call to Prayer and Self Denial, which helps raise money for mission work around the world.

Our History:
The United Methodist Women have been around since 1869 when we were founded as the Womenufffds Foreign Missionary Society. Since then, we have evolved into an organization that does so much more than just missions work. We now focus on a variety of issues including but not limited to global poverty, education, health care, environmental justice and racial equality.
While our name has changed over the years (we used to be known as the United Methodist Church Women), our commitment to doing Godufffds work with love remains the same.
What We Do:
There are many different ways that you can get involved with the United Methodist Women depending on what interests you or what time you have available. Some women choose to join a local unit where they can participate in monthly meetings featuring Bible study, speakers and fellowship. Others may prefer getting involved at the district or conference level where they can attend retreats and workshops or help plan events. And some women may choose to take on leadership roles at the national level by serving on committees or task forces or working on specific projects like advocacy or communications. No matter how you choose to get involved, there is a place for you in the United Methodist Women!

We hold numerous events throughout the year, including our Annual Meeting and Call to Prayer and Self-Denial Service. The “umw reading program forms” is a book that is designed to be used by teachers and students who are currently enrolled in the United States Military Academy Preparatory School. The book covers all aspects of military education, including reading comprehension, writing, math, science, physical fitness tests, and more.
